Helena Bommersheim trained as a retail bookseller, she moved to Stern Verlag in Düsseldorf as their youngest manager. After that, she received a Bertelsmann fellowship in London and the United States, where she volunteered at bookstores and publishers while studying at the university.
After returning from the United States, she helped develop the Thalia branch at Große Bleichen in Hamburg as the acting Branch Manager.
Bommersheim then joined Droemer Knaur Kindler, where she spent eleven years in sales and marketing, first as a Sales Manager and then as Sales and Marketing Manager. Then she was Managing Director during the development of DuMont monte Verlag, Cologne, an internationally focused company.
